PURPOSE:To provide heat transfer oil having excellent oxidation stability, consisting of 2-t-amylnaphthalene. CONSTITUTION:Naphthalene is reacted with t-amylchloride in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst (e.g. AlCl3) at 20-250 deg.C. Alternatively, naphthalene is reacted with 2-methyl-1-butene or 2-methyl-2-butene in the presence of an alkylating agent (e.g. activated clay) at 20-250 deg.C to obtain heat transfer oil composed of 2-t-amylnaphthalene of the formula. |
