PURPOSE:To enhance accuracy of printing positions and enhance printing quality in shadow printing, by providing a commanding means for commanding to printing data stored in the first line in a memory means storing a two-line amount of printing data and then to print, in the same line, printing data stored in the second line in the memory means, and a comparing means for comparing the printing data stored at corresponding positions of the first line and the second line in the memory means. CONSTITUTION:After the two-line amount of printing data a1, a2 are momentarily stored in a line buffer 20, the printing data for the first line are printed in a forward direction. When performing shadow printing, underlining or the like is to be conducted for the first line thus printed, a same-line command is outputted, and a command is outputted from a main controlling part 12a, whereby a comparing part 21 compares the corresponding printing data a1, a2 in the first line and the second line in the line buffer 20 on a character basis, the results of comparison are sent to the main controlling part 12a, and when the data thus compared are ''the same'', it is decided that shadow printing is to be conducted, and a command for printing in the forward direction is outputted. Accordingly, by conducting the shadow printing in the same direction as the preceding normal printing, the direction of positioning for printing and the direction of selecting types in the shadow printing are the same as in the preceding normal printing, so that accuracy of printing positions is enhanced, and printing quality is enhanced. |
