PURPOSE:To correctly set the reduction period for output torque independently of the difference of individual automatic transmission and operation conditions by increasing and decreasing the output torque on the basis of the signal supplied from a detection means for detecting a servohydraulic pressure. CONSTITUTION:A fluid torque converter 14, overdrive apparatus 16, and an underdrive apparatus 18 are coaxially installed between the input shaft 10 and the output shaft 12 of an automatic transmission. While, the engagement and release of a frictional engagement apparatus except a unidirectional clutch are controlled by a hydraulic control circuit 30, and hydraulic sensors 32, 34, and 36 detect each servohydraulic pressure of a brake B0, clutch C2, and a brake B2. The oil pressure Px exceedingly close to the oil pressure corresponding to the time of starting of inertia phase is set, and the time when the servohydraulic pressure Pb2 becomes Px is detected by a sensor 36, and the amount of advance is reduced. Therefore, Px is not influenced by the difference of individual automatic transmission and operation conditions.
