Automatic opening and closing road gate - has cam track for lifting gate on pivot axis when gate is swung by contact with vehicle

The gate pivot arrangement has a cam track (23) provided for lifting the gate on the pivot axis (12) during swinging to the open position. An abutment (34) is provided in the cam track for a member e.g. roller (18) connected with the gate. The abutment maintains the position of the cam track when the gate is swung to the open position after contact with the vehicle. The abutment causes delayed yielding under the pressure exerted against the abutment by the gate (10) over the roller when the gate is open and lifted by the cam track. The gate is for use in a drive and opens upon contact with a vehicle bumper. The gate closed automatically after allowing sufficient time for the vehicle to pass through, withouth causing damage by striking the side of the vehicle.
