PURPOSE:To make a liq. crystal display device thin, to simplify stages for manufacturing the display device and to reduce the cost by forming polarizing films on the outsides of substrates for the display device applying the electro-optical effect of a liq. crystal. CONSTITUTION:Polyimide resin contg. cobalt iodide and an ultraviolet absorber is applied to well-washed glass substrates 1, and after arranging the cobalt iodide in one direction with a magnetic head, the resin is dried at such a relatively low temp. as about 100 deg.C to form polarizing films 5 on the glass substrates 1. A liq. crystal display device having a twisted nematic mode is manufactured by using the glass substrates 1 provided with the polarizing films 5. The liq. crystal display device can be made thinner than a conventional liq. crystal display device, stages for manufacturing the display device are simplified, and the cost can be reduced. |
