IMAGE FORMING METHOD

PURPOSE:To prevent toner from being wasted and scattered by applying a lower bias when a no-image zone on a latent image carrier passes through a development area than that to be given when a latent image formation part passes through the development area later. CONSTITUTION:The image carrier 3 rotates as shown by an arrow and is supplied with toner from a developing sleeve 51 to visualize a latent image. The toner is carried to the development area A while the thickness of its layer is uniformed by a layer thickness control blade 54. The amount of supplied toner is controlled according to the potential difference between the image carrier 3 and sleeve 51 to form an image. A low bias voltage is impressed between the sleeve 51 and image carrier 3 from a bias power source 11 while the no-image part on the image carrier 3 passes through the development area A, and the bias voltage is raised when the latent image formation part enters the development area to adjust the amount of supplied toner corresponding to a latent image. Consequently, the contrast of the image is increased and the toner is prevented from being wasted and scattered.
