MANUFACTURE OF ELECTROCHEMICAL CELL

PURPOSE:To obtain an electrochemical cell with a constant quality having a constant diffusion resistance by a method wherein current flows between electrodes baking the cell at a specified temperature and the baking is ended when the current value reaches a specified value. CONSTITUTION:A cell 1 is made up of a pair of electrodes 10 and 12 on both sides of a solid electrolyte layer 2 and a porous ceramic layer 20 covering one of the electrodes. This element is heated in the air at 1,400 deg.C while a DC power source 34 is connected to the electrodes 10 and 12. Threshold current prescribed by the amount of oxygen reaching the electrode 10 due to diffusion passing through the porous ceramic layer 20 is measured with an ammeter 30. The layer 20 proceeds in the sintering with time to decrease the diffusion resistance with respect to the oxygen gas with time and the threshold current flowing between the electrodes 10 and 12 drops. The baking is ended when the current value reaches a specified value.
