Steel is cast continuously in an arcuate mould so as to form a bar of arcuate form, the bar leaving the mould in arcuate form and being progressively straightened when it leaves the mould. The mould is a rotatable wheel having a peripheral groove into which the molten metal is cast while the wheel rotates in the upper portion of the disc, the speed of the disc and the cooling of the metal being so controlled that the bar solidifies before it leaves the mould. Steel bar can be cast more rapidly and with better quality than conventional continuous casting methods and in a form where the bar can be directly rolled into wrought products.
|
