<p>Propellant compsn. (I) for aerosols contains a mixt. of one of (A) CHClF2, CH2F2 or CF3-CH3, and of one of (B) CH2ClF, CClF2-CHClF, CF3-CHClF, CHF2-CClF2, CHClF-CHF2, CF3-CH2Cl, CHF2-CHF2, CF3-CH2F, CClF2-CH3 or CHF2-CH3. Compsn. may also contain n-butane, isobutane or pentane aas hydrocarbon propellant component (C). Pref. propellant compsn. may contain, by wt., 5-60 (10-50) % (A) and 40-95(50-90)% (B) or 5-60 (10-50)% (A) 5-95 (10-80 % (B) and 50 (5-40%) (C). Compsn. (I), contg. (A), (B) and opt. (C), can replace CCl3F and/or CCl2F2. Uses include hair lacquers, body and space deodorants, perfumes, paints, insecticides, household cleansers and waxes. Compsns. (I) do not cause decompsn. of O3; have suitable vapour press. for aerosol propellants; are non-inflammable; have high dissolving capacity; resist hydrolysis in acid or neutral media and are inert to other components and container materials. Dissolving power is superior to, and toxicity is less than, that of CCl3F and CCl2F2 mixts. Addn. of toxic solvents, e.g. CH2Cl2, is unnecessary. Density approaches that of water, allowing use in emulsions.</p> |
