PURPOSE:To obtain a carrier suitable for high-speed affinity chromatography of protein, enzyme and the like, by using a porous polymer which has a specified amount of alcohol hydrogen group and a ligand group able to adsorb intended biological components to hold a retainable amount of water and specific surface area within a specified range. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer of vinyl acetate and a crosslinking monomer having a triazine ring is saponified to obtain a polymer having alcoholic hydroxide group derived from a vinyl alcohol unit. A compound having a ligand able to adsorb biological component is bonded to the copolymer thus obtained through a spacer. Thus, a carrier for adsorbing biological substances of full porosity is obtained which comprises 1.0-14.0mmol/g of alcoholic OH group and 0.001- 3,000mumol/g of a ligand and has 0.5-4.0g/g of retained water and 5-1,000m<2>/g of specific surface area. This carrier provides a chemical stability and a large mechanical strength free from non-specific absorption and give a free choice of the size of pore diameter depending on the use of a crosslinking agent. |
