A device for portioning out liquid food to animals comprises a valve member 3, and a feed member 9 for feeding the food to the valve member 3. According to the invention, the valve member 3 has an elastic wall 4 provided with a slot 7 which extends through the wall. For opening of the valve member, the feed member is set up to feed the food to the valve member at such a force that the food subjects the elastic wall to a pressure which parts the two opposite edges of the wall which extend along the slot.
