<p>PURPOSE:To improve thermal efficiency by heating starting materials while keeping an apparatus in a tightly sealed state. CONSTITUTION:A damper 23 at the bottom of a starting material bucket 4 is closed, and a cover 24 on the top of the bucket 4 is opened to charge starting materials into the bucket 4 through a conveyor 6. A damper 22 at the bottom of a heating shaft 3 and the cover 24 are closed, and the damper 23 is opened to drop the charged starting materials CS into the shaft 3. After closing the damper 23, combustion gas is introduced into the shaft 3 from the inlet 31 to heat the starting materials, and the gas is exhausted from the outlet 32. During this time, the cover 24 is opened to charge the next batch of starting materials. The damper 22 and a cover 21 on the top of a furnace 1 are then opened to throw the heated starting materials HS into the furnace 1, and the damper 22 and the cover 21 are closed.
