PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head which is capable of recording with high resolution and high density and has no deterioration in characteristics for a long period of time, by forming a gap material with two thin films of a specific material coated on the gap surfaces of both core halves and a glass film put in between both thin films. CONSTITUTION:A thin film 12 containing at least >=1 kind among Al, Zr, Mo, Ti, W, Ta and Nb is provided on the gap end surface of a core half 11 by a sputtering or vapor deposition process. A glass thin film 13 having a low fusing point is formed on the film 12 by a sputtering process. Then two core halves 11 are butted to each other via a glass material 14 of a low fusing point to obtain a magnetic head through a heat treatment. In addition, an approximately equal heat expansion coefficient is secured between the film 12 and the core material 11. This causes no cracks to the magnetic head. Thus it is possible to obtain a magnetic head which is capable of recording with high resolution and high density and has no deterioration in characteristics for a long period of time. |
