PURPOSE:To provide a thermal transfer sheet imparting a smooth running property to a thermal head, preventing the roughness of a printed part and excellent in storage stability, constituted by providing a specific heat resistant protective layer to the surface of a substrate sheet, which has a thermal transfer layer, in the side opposite to said thermal transfer layer. CONSTITUTION:To the surface of a substrate sheet (pref., a polyester film) having a thermal transfer layer (pref., a heat-sublimable transfer layer or a heat- meltable transfer layer) in the side opposite to said thermal transfer layer, a heat resistant protective layer containing a reaction product (A) of polyvinyl butyral and isocyanates (e.g., p-phenylene diisocyanate) and alkali (alkaline earth) metal phosphate (pref., sodium phosphate) (B) is provided to obtain an objective thermal transfer sheet. 5-60wt% of isocyanates and 5-40% of alkali (alkaline earth) metal phosphate are pref. used to polyvinyl butyral. |
