In an automatic stamping and bending machine with an upper row and a lower row of drive locations for tool-slide units, each drive location has a driving wheel which has a plug-in coupling for the shaft of the tool-slide unit and which has a wide toothed-belt wheel (48) which is wrapped by two mutually adjacent short toothed belts (52, 54), each toothed belt (52, 54) wrapping around the toothed-belt wheels of the two adjacent drive locations. With the drive system, large driving forces can be transmitted with little backlash. <IMAGE>
