Flameproofing of ABS by means of brominated polyphenylene ether

A self-extinguishing thermoplastic moulding composition containing a copolymer A formed from a butadiene-based elastomer onto which a copolymer of a vinylaromatic monomer having 8 to 9 carbon atoms and acrylonitrile has been grafted, and a copolymer (hard matrix) comprising a vinylaromatic monomer having 8 to 9 carbon atoms and acrylonitrile (ABS), and furthermore containing, in each case based on 100 parts by weight of A, from 2 to 40 parts by weight of brominated polyphenylene ethers, which are known per se, contain a free OH end group and have mean molecular weights (number average) in the range from 2000 to 20000, as flameproofing agent B and from 0.5 to 20 parts by weight of a metallic or non-metallic compound (synergist) C. The moulding composition may contain conventional additives and is used to produce mouldings.
