<p>In order to reduce or eliminate the phenomenon of "permanent shading" or pile reversal in a cut-pile carpet (which has been found to be a result of variation in electromagnetic field direction and/or polarity), an electrically conductive material is provided (eg as, or incorporated in, or impregnated into, or applied to a backing material of the carpet or an underlay for the carpet). One or more such underlays may also be provided in addition to a conventional underlay. Such electrically conductive material creates a substantially uniform electromagnetic field within that area occupied by the carpet when laid.</p> |
