Measuring tape

The measuring tape has a tape strip (1) provided with a measurement scale (2), a fitting (4) being provided on the start of the tape strip and in its turn bearing a handle (5). The handle (5) has, at its end nearer the fitting, a window (8) permitting a view of the measurement point and zero mark (3) at the start of the tape strip (1) or on the fitting (4), and has an elongate shape which is rounded at its free end. It is mounted on the fitting (4) to be capable of being pivoted out of its position in the direction of the extension of the tape, at least on one side, through approximately 180 DEG about an axis (7). The handle (5) has, in the region of its two outer longitudinal edges (11 and 12), two finger recesses (15) for external measurement and two finger recesses (16) for internal measurement. The part of the handle (5) adjoining the finger recesses (15, 16) in the direction of the free end (18) extends into the palm of the user's hand. <IMAGE>
