A conveying-away appliance for conveying away the topped beet leaves, with a roller-feeler arrangement and a height-controlled topping-knife arrangement, uses an axial or radial turbine which is mounted directly on the topping-knife arrangement and co-operates with this and which possesses an essentially closed conveying channel and an upper delivery part. The axial or radial turbine preferably has wheels with vanes made of elastic material and is driven at such a high rotational speed that the beet leaves are discharged from the conveying appliance.
