The invention relates to a heat generator with pressurised firing based on oil or gas with a burner (5), a deflection chamber (9), into which the flame of the burner is directed and the region of which lying at a distance from the burner is the combustion chamber (17), as well as, provided between the deflection chamber (9) and a water-conducting part (7) of the heat generator, a heat transmission space, through which the hot waste gases are conducted. In order to achieve a problem-free detoxification of the waste gases of such a modern heat generator, without its good degree of efficiency being negatively influenced, a catalyser (21, 22) is arranged in the deflection chamber (9). The catalyser (21, 22) is expediently applied as a coating on the wall of the deflection chamber. A heat-recovery device (23) can additionally be arranged behind the heat-transmission space (18). <IMAGE>
