A tailor's template for taking body measurements from a model and for producing patterns for cutting out and a method of using the template are provided, the template being constructed in several parts and being variably adjustable and consisting mainly of a neck shape (3) having the neck cutout (2), a shoulder shape (4), an armhole shape (6) having the armhole (5), and a plurality of measuring tape parts (7, 8, 9, 10, 10', 10'', 11, 11' and 11''). In this case, the neck shape (3) is composed of four neck-shape parts of identical construction which in each case overlap one another and adhere releasably to one another, in each case arranged, for example, in the clockwise direction. In contrast, the shoulder shape (4) is of integral construction and has mainly the shape of an elongate rectangle and, when placed on the shoulder of the model, produces a connection between the neck shape (3) and the armhole shape (6). The armhole shape (6) is likewise composed of four parts, the two upper armhole-shape parts coming to rest on the shoulder shape (4) and the two lower armhole-shape parts which adjoin said upper armhole-shape parts and touch one another below the armhole (5) corresponding to one another in mirror image in each case.
