In a device of this type, having an inlet valve (7) which is attached to the stopcock (4) of a mains water supply, can be controlled on the machine side and to which an inlet hose (9) is connected for the supply of water to the washing container (2), for filling the washing container and automatic actuation of the inlet valve at the stopcock, it is proposed that the inlet valve (7) has a flat diaphragm actuator (14) which is divided by a membrane (11) into two chambers (12, 13), the first chamber (12) of which can be actuated via a pulse generator (16), which can be actuated by the control device (21) of the domestic appliance (1), and a first control line (15) for opening the inlet valve (7), and the second chamber (13) of which can be actuated via a second control line (17) which responds to the filling level (18) of the washing container (2) for closing the inlet valve (7), and that the inlet valve is closed by switching means (25-28) of the flat diaphragm actuator (14) when the control lines (15, 17) are not actuated. <IMAGE>
