The invention relates to an apparatus for irradiating flowable media (5) for generating photochemical reaction products, comprising a rotationally symmetric reaction vessel (1) through which the media are passed from the top to the bottom, a radiation source (2) and an externally (4) driven rotary body (3) having wiping elements (3a) which set the media to be irradiated in rotation along the vessel inner wall (1b) and which keep the vessel inner wall (1b) free of deposits. In order to avoid mixing, especially dilution of the samples, after irradiation, with liquids at the vessel bottom (1a) and in order to minimise the dead volume, the following measures are proposed: a) the reaction vessel (1), in its lower part, is of double-walled construction in the form of an inner cylinder (13) and an outer cylinder (14), b) the inner cylinder (13) projects, with its lower leading edge (15), into the outer cylinder (14) without touching it; c) the leading edge (15) of the inner cylinder (13) has the form of an S-shaped diagonal cut as a drip guide and fluid flow-off edge, whose lowest point is shaped as a drip cone (15b) which projects into a connection (1g, 16) on the outer cylinder (14) for the discharge of the medium. <IMAGE>
