The invention comprises a fabric unwinding apparatus, in which a travelling casing (2) can be moved across a working table (4) in a reciprocating manner. In the apparatus, a roll (16) of fabric is supported on a structure (12) which is mounted on the travelling casing (2), an unwinding roller (20) being placed on the structure (12) in such a way that it is brought into contact with the roll (16) of fabric and is driven with the latter. The structure (12) is designed in such a way that it can be horizontally pivoted through 180 DEG in both directions, so that it adopts a position in which the unwinding roller (20) is in the front part, with respect to the roll (16) of fabric. In the second position, the roll (16) of fabric is situated in the front part. The fabric unwound from its roll by the unwinding roller (12) hangs on a conveyor belt (24), which is arranged underneath the unwinding roller (20), and is then transported by the conveyor belt (24) into the front part of the travelling casing (2). The transported fabric (17) is placed by the feed roller (26) on the working table (4) and spread out there. When the structure (12) is horizontally rotated through 180 DEG , the fabric (17) is arranged on the working table with its front side upwards. Repetition of the horizontal rotation of the structure (12) ensures that the pieces of fabric (17) are alternately arranged with their front and rear sides facing upwards. <IMAGE>
