Urethral catheter for stopping bleeding after prostate operations

A urethral catheter for sealing off the prostatic cavity which bleeds after a prostate operation against the interior of the bladder, designed such that a catheter balloon having a special shape presses against the surround of the neck of the bladder and thus hermetically seals the bleeding prostatic cavity against the interior of the bladder. The catheter thus prevents passage of blood into the interior of the bladder. At the same time, the bladder wall either has the same wall thickness as the remainder of the bladder wall in the region of the tapered middle balloon section or it is thinner at this point. The balloon wall is made of a thin non-elastic material or of an elastic material in another embodiment. The internal pressure of the balloon can be monitored with a control balloon in the region of the catheter end. Marks on the catheter shaft facilitate correct placement.
