Casting method and an apparatus for carrying out the latter, in which the solidified material (14) is withdrawn continuously from a water-cooled mould (K) and an electrically heated slag pool (12) above the melt (S3) is held at a higher temperature than the melt (S3). The method is carried out on the basis of signals from feedback units (RM) and temperature sensors (TS1, TS2, TS3) and a weight sensor (Gm) with control and, in part, regulation by means of the control device (ST). A slag layer (15) and the solidified material (14) eliminates the necessity for lubrication of the mould. <IMAGE>
