Salts of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro- beta -carbolines of the formula I <IMAGE> (I) where R is hydrogen, halogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy or trifluoromethyl, x is halogen and n is an integer from 2 to 5, and their preparation are described. The compounds are intermediates for the preparation of pharmacologically active substances.
