PURPOSE:To rearrange characters, insert a new character between characters, and delete unnecessary characters, by providing a means which recognizes characters of a document inputted as an image. CONSTITUTION:A reader 1 reads an original image and stores the image in a picture image memory 20 and an exclusively used processor 27 performs image recognition and image process and outputs the results to a printer 11. In this case, recognition of characters is performed in such a way that the slanting shadow of black meshes to X axis is found in the area from LTOP to LBTM and, when one or more black meshes exists, the (x) coordinate PRx is set at ''1'' and, if not, at ''0''. Then, by fetching areas where PRx=0 continues, the spaces are recognized and the characters are recognized from the recognized spaces. Therefore, characters can be rearranged, a new character can be inserted between characters, and unnecessary characters can be deleted. |
