摘要 PURPOSE:To increase the information density of a recording medium per unit area by scanning a laser beam crossing slantingly the moving direction of the recording medium, and forming tracks at right angles to the moving direction of this recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The laser beam reflected by a reflecting mirror 17 changes the direction of irradiation to the recording medium 14 while maintaining polarization of 90 deg., and the laser beam is scanned on the recording medium 14 while crossing its moving direction slantingly. At this time, the laser beam before being reflected by a rotary mirror 12 slants at an angle alpha to the moving direction of the recording medium 14, the scanning direction of the laser beam deviates by the angle alpha from the direction perpendicular to the moving direction of the recording medium 14. The recording medium 14, however, moves at a specific speed, so a time lag corresponding to the movement during the scanning of the laser beam is generated and there is a deviation generated between the scanning direction of the laser beam and the direction of track formation and tracks are formed at right angles to the moving direction of the recording medium 14.
