Prodn. of foamed synthetic leather comprises applying a foamable plastics layer to a carrier material (e.g. fabric) then passing through a calibration device which determines the total thickness of the synthetic leather. During passage the compsn. is foamed, esp. at a heat-treatment station. Pref. the plastic is a polyurethane, esp. a two-component polyurethane integral foam mixt. The use of solvents which have to be evaporated is avoided so energy costs are reduced and less equipment is needed.
