A composite material comprises a fabric of refractory and electrically insulating mineral threads in which are inserted at regular intervals electrically conducting wires insulated electrically with respect to the outer surfaces of the fabric. Each of the electrically conducting wires presents undulations. The electrically conducting wires are pref. wrapped spirally on the mineral threads. Method prevents the cutting of the mineral threads by the conducting wires which can be brought about at about 950 degrees C because of the difference between the coeffts. of expansion of the conducting wires, 15 x 10-6, and of the refractory mineral threads e.g. of silica, 0.3 x 10-6. This cutting can cause the conducting wires to contact with the pipe around which the material is placed, making impossible the effective detection of leaks of liq. metal.
|
