The invention relates to a method for the determination of proteins, especially HIV and CMV antibodies, in body fluids by the principle of solid-phase immunological reaction using a buffer containing an animal serum and/or a non-ionic surfactant in a phosphate or carbonate buffer together with other additives selected from inorganic salts, water-soluble polymers, organic compounds, propionic acid and derivatives thereof, and mixtures thereof. It is possible by means of this dilution buffer to rule out false-positive results reliably and reproducibly.
