PURPOSE:To make a silica gel suitable for the use in optical resolution of amino acid in particular as filler for liquid chromatography, by chemically bonding an optically active group through a silane treated material thereto. CONSTITUTION:A separation agent is made of a substance as given by the formula I. At least one of Y<1>, Y<2> in the formula I represents silica gel and the rest thereof each represent H, 1-20C alkyl group, 6-20C aryl group, 7-20C aryl alkyl group, halogen, hydroxy group or 1-20C alkoxy group or a desired combination thereof. X represents a spacer of 1-30C and R does a metal salt of optically active tryptophane. Then, the material silica gel is preferably 1-100mum in the particle size and 50-5,000Angstrom in the pore diameter. Then, the silane treating agent employs substance as given by the formula II. Here, in the formula I, X represents the residual group in which X' in the formula II bonds to R. This makes the silica gel suitable for the use in optical resolution of amino acid. |
