PURPOSE:To minimize the relative sliding distance of a point of contact between a cam follower and a valve, so as to decrease the lateral load of the valve, by constituting the cam follower as it sways, according to the opening/closing of the valve, in almost equal angles centering around a position where the cam follower is right-angled with the axis of the valve. CONSTITUTION:A valve 7 and a cam shaft 10 are arranged as whose axes cross to each other at right angles, and a cam follower 12, one end of which is swayingly supported by an engine, is set between the valve 7 and the cam 10a. This follower 12 is constituted as it sways in almost equal angles (alpha beta) centering around the position of the follower 12, where a straight line L which passes through a point P of contact between the follower 12 and the valve 7 and a swaying center O of the follower 12, and an axis line Y of the valve 7, cross to each other at right angles, and consequently, the relative sliding width (s) of the said point P is minimized. In this way, the lateral load of the valve 7 can be decreased, and the following ability of the valve can be raised, partly because the reciprocating intertial mass of the cam follower is small. |
