PURPOSE:To provide a latent heat type thermal energy storage material which has excellent thermal stability, does not corrode metal, has a m.p. within a suitable temp. range and high latent heat of fusion and is suitable for use in thermal energy storage, containing a specified hindered piperidine derivative. CONSTITUTION:2,2,6,6-Tetramethyl-4-piperidone (triacetonamine) is reacted with hexamethylene-diamine in the resence of a hydrogenation catalyst such as Pt under H2 pressure to obtain a hindered piperidine derivative of the formula (wherein n is 0-10), which has a latent heat to fusion of 65-70cal/g and a m.p. of 63 deg.C (anhydride) and 50-52 deg.C (hydrate). The derivative is used alone or as a mixture thereof with water, or optionally additives such as supercooling inhibitor, thickener etc. are added thereto, to obtain a latent heat type thermal energy storage material. |
