PURPOSE:To reduce the cost by rotating a cam gear with a motor which drives a tape and moving a head base forward with a hook of a main cam when a reel turntable is not rotated and holding the head base in the play position by a lock lever. CONSTITUTION:The rotating force of a motor 3 is transmitted to a reverse gear 14a or a forward gear 14b through a take-up gear 11 meshing with either of a gear 8b for forward and a gear 8a for reverse to rotate a reel turntable 13 for reverse or a reel bae 13b for forward. A small gear 12 of the take-up gear 11 bites always a cam gear 23 to rotate this gear 23. When a head base 65 is not moved forward up to the play position, a main cam 27 is moved forward by an engaging pin 26 of the cam gear 23, and the head base 65 is moved forward by a hook 37 attached to the main cam 27 in accordance with the movement of the main cam 27. Simultaneously, a lock lever 50 is moved forward, and a lock projection 62 is caught by a holding lever pin to hold the head base 65 in the play position.
