<p>PURPOSE:To improve the refining capacity with use of an inexpensive heat source while preventing an increase in S concn. by spouting the powder or the liquid of a substance contg. C and gaseous O2 from the upper part of a converter through a lance, and blowing the mixture onto the surface of a molten iron bath in the converter as a flame. CONSTITUTION:Pulverized coal 6 is entrained by gaseous N2 as a carrier and introduced into a lance 2 in the conventional carburization operation in a conventional top and bottom-blown converter 1, and gaseous oxygen is simultaneously introduced into the lance 2. Then the pulverized coal 6 and the gaseous O2 are spouted from the leading end of the lance 2 at high speed to form a jet, and both jets are mixed by collision at a position comparatively close to the leading end of the lance due to the structure of the lance. Accordingly, a high- temp. flame 4 is formed above the surface of a molten iron bath 3, and the flame 4 is struck upon the surface of the molten rion bath to transmit the heat of the flame 4 to the molten iron 3. Consequently, the amt. of solid materials such as scraps can be increased, and the reduction of iron ore, Mn ore, etc. can be advantageously carried out in the converter.</p> |
