The invention relates to a method for collecting refuse and a refuse collection vehicle for implementing the method. The known methods of this type have the disadvantage that the refuse collection vehicle has to stop for virtually every dustbin, and that a dustbin cannot gain access to the refuse collection vehicle until the previous dustbin has been emptied, put down and placed to one side. This results in disadvantageous waiting times and the expenditure of a large amount of energy due to the continual starting and stopping of the refuse collection vehicle. These disadvantages are avoided according to the invention in that the dustbins are successively received, emptied and put down again in a fully automatic fashion while the refuse collection vehicle is moving, the receiving, emptying and putting down of a plurality of dustbins being carried out in a temporally overlapping manner.
