For the purpose of image transmission, an endoscope with an eyepiece and a probe part has an optical system with an eyepiece and an exchangeable lens. Optical fibres which can be connected to a light source serve the purpose of light transmission. In the path of the image and light transmission, the endoscope according to the invention has one or more disconnectors (9) whose connections have coaxial, mutually matching optical slip rings (12) for the light transmission as well as a central image transmission. Owing to this construction, it is possible, at least in the disconnector region, for the mutually coupled endoscope parts to be rotated with respect to one another about their longitudinal axis without an impairment of the image and light transmission occurring in the process. In the case of the connection of interchangeable lenses (15) by means of a screw connection, there is therefore no need for any special measures in order precisely to maintain a specific rotary position relative to one another. Moreover, by appropriate construction of the disconnector it is also possible to mount endoscope parts to be rotatable in any way on the basic endoscope instrument. <IMAGE>
