A process for the manufacture of sodium alkyl sulphate pastes of relatively high concentration from alkyl sulphuric acids is described. The process involves the addition of sodium ion in excess of that required for neutralising the free acid. The process is especially applicable to the neutralisation of alkyl sulphuric acids derived from coconut or palm nut oil.
