It is known to equip cooling sections for bar-shaped rolling stock with coolant feed devices which have a cooling tube surrounding the rolling stock and acting as a nozzle and an annular housing which surrounds the cooling tube, forming an annular space, and is connected to a coolant source via a feed connection branch. Since the coolant entering through the feed connection branch passes directly to the cooling tube, the associated asymmetric incident flow has a disruptive effect during the operation of the cooling section, particularly at relatively high pressure of the coolant. The invention proposes the use of a tubular deflection unit (6) which exhibits a clearance within the annular housing (2) - also having a clearance with respect to the coolant tube (central tube portion 1b) surrounded by it - and the length of which is such that it screens off the cooling tube from the outlet opening (3a) of the feed connection branch (3) and thereby forcibly brings about uniform tangential flow onto the cooling tube. <IMAGE>
