<p>The invention relates to a driving shield with a working chamber which is sealed off to the rear in the shield front part by a transverse wall and is defined to the front towards the heading face by a scraping disc and in which the scraping disc, for peeling off the in-situ earth material at the heading face, is arranged in such a way as to be rotatable in both directions in a supporting liquid under pressure and from which the excavated earth material, partly mixed with the supporting liquid, can be fed via a feed hopper to a screw conveyor, the rear discharge of which is arranged outside the working chamber. In order to be able to dispense with an expensive separating plant for separating the supporting liquid and earth material and to achieve energy-saving removal of the earth material to be deposited on a dump in a simple manner, the discharge of the screw conveyor is arranged in a second shield chamber which is sealed off from the rear part of the shield by a chamber wall and to which compressed air is admitted which regulates the pressure of the supporting liquid in the working chamber. In the shield chamber, the earth material mixed with supporting liquid is fed to a screening device in which the supporting liquid is separated to the greatest extent and is also fed to a pump arranged at the base of the shield chamber and leading with its pressure line into the working chamber.
