The machine consists of a framework with a bar magnet at each end and a third bar magnet on a trolley which can move the ends on a pair of rails. If the central magnet is oriented with its north pole upwards, while the left end magnet also has its north pole upwards and the right end magnet has its south pole upwards, the central magnet will be repelled and attracted, causing it to move from left to right. - Part of the energy generated by the movement is used to invert the end magnets when the trolley is near the end of its travel. The trolley will then change direction until another inversion. Any surplus energy can be used to do work, e.g. drive a dynamo. An alternative version uses magnets mounted on non-magnet discs linked by a clutch to a shaft. (6pp Dwg.No.0/2)
