Process and apparatus for conducting away and rendering harmless flue gas condensates from domestic chimneys, in which the flue gas concentrate is trapped in the chimney base, diluted and mixed with domestic effluents and passed into the sewage system. In order to be able to carry out the process, a discharge pipe for flue gas condensate is located in the foundation block of the chimney base with connection to an effluent pipe. The discharge pipe in the foundation block is configured in such a way that the liquid present in the foundation forms a liquid seal so that no air can leak into the chimney through the discharge pipe. The alkali solutions contained in the domestic effluents neutralise the acids contained in the flue gas concentrate and render these harmless so that they can be passed into the sewage system.
