To exploit the swelling of the fibres of a cloth (length of textile material) in the setting step, the cloth is repeatedly treated with hot water at 100 to 160 DEG C in a high pressure steamer having an internal temperature from 100 to 160 DEG C under a predetermined longitudinal tension and compressive force (in the direction of the cloth thickness).
