PURPOSE:To allow end surfaces of optical fibers to abut on each other accurately and easily by aligning the end surfaces to each other in the V-shaped groove of a columnar member, and holding the optical fibers elastically from the outer peripheries by an elastic means such as an elastic body and an elastic cylinder. CONSTITUTION:The optical fibers 2 to be connected together are inserted into a cylindrical member 12 from both ends until their end surfaces abuts on each other in the V-shaped groove 11a of the columnar member 11. In this case, the columnar member 12 holds optical fiber cores 1 near end parts and guides them straight axially. The elastic body 13 made of, for example, thermoplastic elastomer while a matching agent is added is positioned in the V-shaped groove 11a and arranged so that the optical fibers 2 are pressed in the direction of the V-shaped groove, and the elastic means 14 made of an elastic cylinder with a cut part 14a is fitted in lengthwise from the outer peripheries. Thus, the end- surface abutting operation is performed accurately and easily. |
