CONTINUOUS CASTING DEVICE FOR STEEL PLATE

PURPOSE:To prevent effectively the generation and growth of a solidified shell on the surface of a pouring basin and to obtain a steel plate having high quality in a roll type continuous casting device by providing a cover which has a surface for reflecting the radiant heat of a molten steel and shuts off external air above the pouring basin. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal 3 is poured into the pouring basin 2 of the molten steel formed between cooling rolls 1, 1 provided in parallel apart at a suitable space from each other and freely rotatably from a tundish 4 above said basin and is cooled. The cooled steel is taken out as a continuous slab 5. The box-shaped cover 6 which is closed in the upper part is provided between the basin 2 and the tundish 4. The upper wall 7 of the cover 6 has a hole 8 to allow the passage of the molten steel 3 flowing down from the tundish 4 and has the surface 9 for reflecting the radiant heat of the molten steel and heats the surface of the basin 2 on the inside surface. The side wall 10 of the cover 6 covers the basin 2 together with the wall 7 to prevent the inflow of the external air, thereby preventing effectively the cooling on the surface of the pouring basin. The decrease in the temp. of the molten steel by the radiation and convection is thus minimized and the purpose is achieved.
