Measurement of bath temp. for metal in metallurgical container - at one or several points simultaneously

Process is claimed for the measurement of bath temp. in a metallurgical container. At least one hole is pierced in the metal envelope and the refractory lining of the metallurgical container and the bath temp. is measured across these holes. Temp. may be measured by a thermocouple or an optical pyrometer and a neutral gas such as nitrogen or argon may be blown through the hole to prevent the penetration of metal into the hole. A guide tube may be provided to facilitate replacement of the pyrometer.
