PURPOSE:To prevent seizure and to decrease driving power loss by controlling the viscosity among the parameters of the number of revolutions of bearings, bearing load and the viscosity of a lubricating oil according to the number of revolutions of the bearings and bearing load determined as a result of operations. CONSTITUTION:The lubricating oil delivered from a tank 4 by a pump 5 is cooled to a prescribed temp. by a cooler 6 and is supplied to the bearing parts of backup rolls 2, 2', from which the oil is returned to a tank 4 and is thus circulated. The bearing load P, the number N of revolutions of bearings and the temp. of a lubricating oil detected by a screw-down force detector 8, a speed detector 9 of a work roll 3 and a thermometer 10 for the lubricating oil are inputted to a calculator 11 which calculates such a lubricating oil temp. at which ZN/P (Z: the viscosity of the lubricating oil) attains about 2.5. The signal obtd. from the difference between the actually measured temp. and calculated temp. is outputted to a flow rate regulating valve 12 to control the water flow rate of a cooling water pipe 13 thereby controlling adequately the ZN/P. The specified film thickness of the lubricating oil for the roll bearing is thus maintained constant. |
