Arrangement in a rotary sludge kiln 1, which is provided on the inlet end for sludge with a known type of chain zone 3. The arrangement is characterized by the fact that following the chain zone 3 a number of chain parts 5 are arranged, each of which consists of an annular center part 6 and sets 7 of coil-shaped chains 8a-e extending from the center part to the furnace wall and mounted on the furnace wall in its longitudinal direction. These chain sets 7 extend spoke-like from the center part, in which at least the annular center part 6 right after the chain zone 3 is provided with a device 10 that covers the opening of rings 6.
